Robert H Hughes – Best Dive Job in the World 2012

Good Afternoon,

My name is Robert H. Hughes, I am writing this letter to you today to tell you why I am the man for the job! I have paroosed the folks on Facebook that have entered the competition and “I see young people”. LOL. I am a 45 year old with the attitude of a young man. To quote James Dean- “Dream as if you’ll live forever, Live as if you’ll die today“, this quote is the epidemy of my life. I had a very rough beginning to my adulthood, I fell into a very destructive lifestyle when I was in my teen years and continued to challenge death for over 25 years. After having escaped death several times and an almost life ending incident 4 years ago this coming March, I had an epiphany! I put my self into rehabilitation and found my peace. I soon after found the reason I had survived on this planet and why a greater force wanted me to remain here!

I decided to try Scuba Diving and soon after archived my Padi Open Water Certification, (that was less than 2 years ago) and since then have logged over 235 dives. I have gone on to achieve the highest recreational certification possible – as a Padi Master Scuba Diver with over 15 specialties. I am presently working my way through my Padi Divemaster certification, which I will be finishing soon.

I am an active member of Save Our Sharks, Oceans for Youth, Underwater Archeological Society of Chicago, Discover the Depths, Warrior Scuba Project (working with Military Veterans on Scuba), Padi, Dan, Project Aware and love working as a volunteer at The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.

My life’s goal is to become an instructor and share the underwater world and all it’s beauty with as many people as I can. I love to see the look on new divers faces as they become comfortable with their skills and begin to explore all that the Marine World has to offer. It is a great passion of mine to share this beautiful “heaven” and see them advance as ecologically aware divers. I am a very hard working “overachiever”, I have fantastic interpersonal skills, I am extremely well spoken and love to teach. I have been in sales for over 25 years and know how to help people realize a dream while building their self confidence along the way. I believe it is hard to Not believe in a higher power after seeing what lies below the waters surface and absolutely love to share this.
